THE LUGANO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT, OCT. 3, 2009
For those who are familiar with the traditional costumed, exuberant Rondo’ concerts, this
one is quite different. More like a medley. No percussion, 14 stringed instruments,
a French horn instead of the oboe – and the Maestro non-stop at the piano.
One has to get used to it.
I found the start a bit slow – either because the format is so new, or because the
group wasn’t sufficiently warmed up yet. But then you begin to get used to hearing
a new dimension of Rondo’. The same familiar pieces - CARROUSEL,
PREPARATIVI, PULCINELLA - but somehow different. The transitions
between pieces are original, designed, probably, to enhance the “newness” of the
presentation, sometimes keeping us guessing about what’s to come. No hand clapping
at the end with BAROCCO (it was performed a year ago at the Swiss tour,
but not this year in Lugano), no GIOCO FINALE but some pieces not on the
Chamber Orchestra CD like RISVEGLIO and BALCONE DI GIULIETTA.
Every concert is always a bit different by two or three pieces. The Maestro is quite c
oncentrated on his piano-playing. Triumphant in the end .. then alone on stage, as
always, treating us to ISOLA, like an island in the sea of his admirers, yet alone
with his artistic creation, and not ready to give up yet.
But I wanted to clap in unison with him, with the orchestra, at the end, as with
the traditional format. But here it’s not done. This is more sober.
It was a concert full of friendship, of rediscovered fans, plus a beautiful Rondo’-Maestro
exhibit for the pleasure and admiration of the Maestro himself and his friends and agents.
“It refreshes my memory” he said. Ours too.
For the rest, some like the French horn, others miss the oboe (I’m one of the latter) ,
some don’t think the pieces have gained by being re-interpreted, others find them even more beautiful.
The exchanges are lively.
It’s hard to describe the sensations provoked by this discovery, and I hope to see other
impressions here. A heartfelt thanks to the friends who were there and who contributed
to making this concert a major Rondo’ event.

LE CONCERT MUSIQUE DE CHAMBRE, LUGANO, LE 3 OCTOBRE 2009
Un très beau concert, inhabituel pour tous ceux qui préfèrent le format « traditionnel ».
Un début un peu lent . Même si on le connaît, cette ouverture avec ODISSEA, il faut s’y
habituer. C’est pareil.. et différent. Puis ça « décolle », et on reconnaît bien Rondo’, mais
sous une autre dimension : CARROUSEL, PREPARATIVI, PULCINELLA...
quelques nouveaux musiciens par rapport à ceux qui figurent sur la couverture du nouveau CD.
Quelques morceaux qui n’y figurent pas, comme RISVEGLIO et
BALCONE DI GIULIETTA, pas de BAROCCO (au contraire de Cham il y a un an) , pas de GIOCO FINALE, les airs de transition entre les morceaux principaux assez
rafraîchissants, comme si on découvrait un nouveau Maestro, qui tentent toujours des choses
nouvelles. Un Maestro très content de lui-même ..triomphal. .. nous offrant à la fin son
ISOLA.. lui comme une île entourée de ses fans, et en même temps seul
sous le spot avec son art, pas prêt à abandonner.
Je voulais battre les mains avec lui, avec l’orchestre, comme au bon vieux temps.
Mais ici, c’est sobre. On ne le fait pas.
Mais c’était un concert plein d’amitié, de retrouvailles, avec la très belle exposition
d’un de nos amis Rondophile, la vie de Rondo’ et de son créateur, pour le plus grand
plaisir du Maestro et des siens. « Ca me rafraîchit la mémoire », dit-il. La nôtre aussi.
Pour le reste, qui aime la corne française, qui préfère le hautbois (je fais partie de ces derniers),
qui pense que les morçeaux gagnent avec ces nouveaux arrangements, qui dit non même
s’ils restent beaux…, les échanges sont vifs.
Il n’est pas facile de décrire les sensations éprouvées ici. J’espère que d’autres me suivront.
Mais tous mes remerciements aux amis qui ont fait de ce concert un vrai évènement.

IL CONCERTO MUSICA DA CAMERA, LUGANO, il 3 Ottobre 2009
Un concerto bello e insolito per quelli che preferiscono il formato "tradizionale". Un inizio
un po' lento, anche se lo conosciamo, sempre con ODISSEA, ma questa volta, si deve abituarsi...
Siamo già nel diverso, nel inabituale. Poi "decolla", questo concerto, e si riconosce Rondo'
ma con un'altra dimensione.
CARROUSEL, PREPARATIVI, PULCINELLA... qualche nuovo musicista
rispetto a quelli che figurano sulla copertina del CD e che erano l’anno scorso in Svizzera.
Qualche brano che non sono sulla scaletta del CD, come RISVEGLIO e
BALCONE DI GIULIETTA, niente BAROCCO (al contrario di Cham),
niente GIOCO FINALE, i "branini di transizione" tra brani principali, rinfrescanti,
come se si scoprisse un altro Maestro, sempre tentando delle cose nuove. Un Maestro
molto concentrato, e poi trionfale... regalandoci con il solito brano ISOLA ..
lui l'isola in un mare di spettatori, ma solo sotto lo spot, di fronte alla sua arte,
e non pronto ad abbandonare.
Mi mancava di non poter battere le mani al finale con lui, con l’orchestra, come “una volta”.
Ma qui’ abbiamo un concerto “sobrio”. Non si fa. Ma era un concerto pieno di amicizia, di ritrovate.. e la bellissima mostra della vita
musicale di Rondo’ e del suo creatore, per il piacere del Maestro ed i suoi, tutti contenti.
“Mi rinfresca la memoria” disse lui. E la nostra pure. Per il resto, chi apprezza il corno francese, chi preferisce l'oboe, (faccio parte di questi),
chi pensa che certi brani non hanno guadagnato al nuovo arrangiamento, chi li preferisce cosi',
trovandoli ancora migliori... Gli scambi sono vivi. Non possedo il livello d’ italiano richiesto per bene descrivere le sensazioni provate di
questa scoperta, e spero che altri scriveranno qui' le loro impressioni. Ma un caro s
aluto a tutti quelli che hanno contribuito alla convivialità del evento del 3 Ottobre. .
